What do Bubbles and Math Have in Common?

LayerCake

They’re both a part of this quilt I recently finished. Math because it’s a free Layer Cake (10” squares) pattern from Moda called “Basic Math”. Bubbles because that’s the edge-to-edge quilt design Kim Hart, long-arm quilter, and I agreed would be just the ticket for this very geometric quilt. Kim is the talented quilter from The Busy Bobbin here in Florida. I first saw this quilt made by Susan of Studio Adventures. Her quilt, which you can see here, was done in bright, happy colors. I had the Barcelona Layer Cake here in the sewing room just waiting for a quilt to land in. So here it is- simple, fun, and bright.

Here’s a close-up of Kim’s quilting done in a flame-color variegated thread. Plus you can see some of the print patterns a bit better here. Susan also made a Barcelona quilt- these same fabric prints but pieced in a different pattern. You can see that one of hers here.

More bubbles and fabrics. I love this fabric line! Speaking of quilting projects, Elizabeth at Altered Book Lover blog invited me to be her guest in a post on her blog. She conducted an e-mail interview, and then chose photos from my blog to illustrate the article. I must say, Elizabeth made me look good, so kudos to her! It was fun to review my blog through her eyes, and there were some photos I'd almost forgotten about. Plus I’ve met some new blog-land friends thanks to her post. If you’d like to take a look, here’s the link.

What a great interview! you have so much talent and art to share! my major was also Home cE in college but i didn't finish. my first quilt attempts were to join up the scraps from sun dresses and bathing suits and lace and old denim; i made pillow covers. batik and beading came next as i majored in the sixties! Lily looks comfortable in the sink ,a habit my cats have as well.my last hores was named Lily!!

Hi Nancy! I've just come from reading your interview with Bleubeard and Elizabeth - what a great interview! It seems we have a similar background - grew up doing all sorts of textile based stuff with my Mum then taught Home Economics - to Special Needs Children.
Since retiring and my Mum passing I took up paper crafts then discovered Quilting Arts and Cloth, Paper, Scissors which switched me on to Mixed Media and Needlefelting - `i shall certainly be coming back here so am signing up a follower - so pleased to meet you!!! Chrisx

I'm thrilled you were not disappointed with the interview, or the photos I chose. And speaking of photos. This latest quilt is gorgeous, and your quilter did a fantastic job making your wonderful quilt look good!!! My grandmother would have approved of your squares and how they lined up perfectly.

This is one fun quilt! I agree circles were the perfect thing to contrast with the squares.

I'm so glad I saw your interview on Elizabeth's blog. I'm now following you and will be anxious to look through some of your previous posts when I have time.

Hopefully, you will inspire me to take up fabric and quilt again, too!
